What is BioTE?

As a personalized hormone replacement therapy treatment (HRT), BioTE is designed specifically for each individual patient. The customized BioTE pellets are carefully implanted underneath the skin in order to slowly release chemically identical hormones into the bloodstream. Each pellet contains doses of estrogen and/or testosterone that are ideal for the specific patient. These hormones are specifically designed in order to replicate the hormones that the body naturally produces, also known as bioIdentical hormone replacement therapy or BHRT. BioTE hormone replacement can be helpful for both men and women who experience several issues, including:

  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Weight gain
  • Low sex drive
  • Moodiness
  • Low energy
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • High cholesterol

Is BioTe Right for me?

In both men and women, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone contribute to a number of crucial processes within the body. As we get older, hormone levels can begin to change and drop, leading to a number of unpleasant side effects. In particular, when women go through menopause, they notice a drop in estrogen and testosterone during menopause; additionally, many men can go through a similar event that relates to testosterone. The below symptoms and side effects are just a few of the issues that Kotsanis Institute of Functional Medicine patients notice before BioTE treatment.

Symptoms in men:

  • Decreased sex drive
  • Fatigue and trouble sleeping
  • Loss of muscle and bone mass
  • Weight gain
  • Moodiness and irritability
  • High blood sugar and cholesterol

Symptoms in women:

  • Irregular menstrual periods
  • Migraines
  • Dryness and changes in the skin
  • Decreased estrogen levels
  • Hot flashes
  • Pain during intercourse

How does BioTE Work?

Following a consultation, we will schedule you to come in periodically during the year to have your BioTE insertion treatments. The treatment only lasts a short time, and a local anesthetic is applied to the upper part of your buttocks prior to a small incision being made. The BioTE hormone pellets are only the size of a grain of rice, and they are carefully injected underneath the skin. To close the small incision, a surgical adhesive is utilized. Within a few months, the pellet emits your personally designed dosage of hormones to allow your body to better regulate its hormone levels.

The BioTE pellets not only help to stabilize your hormones but they can also:

  • Increase libido
  • Aid in intestinal absorption
  • Provide functional support to your brain, liver, and heart
  • Help with weight loss
  • Enhance your sleeping patterns

What Should I Expect After BioTE Treatments?

Over time, the BioTE pellets begin to dissolve slowly. Therefore, follow-up procedures will need to be scheduled every 4 – 6 months in order to maintain your overall results. Our team can work with you to curate an appropriate treatment plan specifically for your needs and health goals.
